Model: Anneke's legs X.X I really love ballet, so I HAD to do a photo session about ballet...and I'm really lucky Anneke's a ballet freak too... I think the contrast between the soft, pink shoes and the dirty floor, wall and chair is interesting...And I think the composition is nice. More pictures will follow. I hope you like it! Thx for feedback!
It was pretty difficult for me to choose a shot to comment on in your gallery, many of your photos are quite impressive and intriguing. I chose this one because of your cropping choice. Typically, photographers shoot their subjects to capture their face (something I'm too guilty of) rather than letting other aspects of their body. The ballet shoes and the mucky ground creates quite a bit of story and interest for me, and I find my self involuntarily trying to invent a story to connect these two things. This is one of the powerful aspects of photography, and you've done that wonderfully here. Had her face been in it, I fear I would have been distracted from noticing many of the more unique aspects of this photo.
My only suggestion is that you play around with some filters to really make the texture on the wall and ground pop. If the cracks and dirt were a bit more obvious, it would really embellish this photograph and make for a truly memorable photo. It's an incredible scene, I think you have a real winner here.
thank you! i am impressed by all your kind words it was a truly fascinating location, for sure and i love such story telling pics too but people often seem to have no time for taking a closer look at the pics and to think about it... so i am really glad you've done this! well, i increased the contrast but i have no idea how to improve the look of the structures, could you give me a tip how to edit the pic?
Gah! Sorry, I can be of much help then, I've never used gimp. Does it have burn and dodge tools? If you're careful with them, you can zoom in and bring out some of the shadowing and highlights to up the contrast. Be careful though, I see a lot of photos on dA that get mucked up by misuse of these tools. Let me know if you get Photoshop, I can give some advice on filters to run.
